Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure which helps to remove excess fat from various parts of the body. A healthy diet, physical exercise and a balanced lifestyle are necessary for ideal weight. However, there are pockets of fat which are resistant to all efforts and for which the solution is surgery. Areas suitable for liposuction include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, “pillows” on the thighs, calves, ankles, arms, chin, neck and breasts.

The ideal candidate for liposuction is a healthy person, psychologically balanced, with an active lifestyle and who has isolated deposits of fat. Because the skin is not excised during liposuction, it should be firm and elastic. In cases where the skin is lowered, crossover with another procedure is recommended. Liposuction is not designed to remove a large quantity of fat and does not replace a healthy diet.

During the examination, try to transmit your wishes as clearly as possible. It’s important to set realistic goals for this procedure. So that you can discuss in an objective way the area where the procedure will be made, pictures will be taken. Please be prepared to inform your doctor about your medical history and current medications. Dr. Fodor will evaluate the size and location of the fat deposits as well the skin structure and quality.

You will have the opportunity to establish the type of intervention, the hospitalization, the associated procedures and the possible risks associated with this surgery. You will receive recommendations regarding your diet, smoking and drug administration. Substances affecting blood clotting cannot be used prior to surgery.

The type of the anesthesia depends on the scale of the intervention and on individual particularities. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation is suitable for smaller procedures. When the goal of the liposuction is to reduce large quantities of fat, the surgery will be carried out under general anesthesia. The intervention is assisted by an anesthesiologist.

Depending on the decision you took, you can go home in a few hours after the surgery or you can remain under supervision overnight. This usually depends on the size of the area which needs to be transformed.

The intervention of liposuction

There are several techniques for liposuction; however, in all the various versions, the practice is a small 2-3 mm incision in the area that needs to be adjusted. A cannula is inserted through this incision. The role of this piece of equipment is to loosen the fat cells and drain them out. The other side of the cannula is attached to a pump or a large syringe which will collect the fat. During the surgery the cannula is moved back and forth to the fat deposits to break and release the excess fat. This movement can be carried out by the surgeon or by a motor attached to the cannula. For smoother progress,a mixed solution formed by normal saline and local anesthetic substances which constrict the blood vessels is injected. During the procedure, fat and fluids are removed as well. Optimal hydration of the patient during the surgery is essential for the balance of the body. After the surgery you will be given drugs for your own convenience. Special elastic clothing should be worn for several weeks over the treated area. Edema and bruising are usual after the surgery.

The symptoms will gradually disappear: after about 3 weeks, the treated area will be discolored and will have an almost physiological form. Residual swelling will disappear totally in the next few weeks. You should take light walks as soon as possible but stressful activities should be avoided. You can return to work after a week but take care of yourself to allow the healing process to finalize.

You can enjoy your new image the first day after the surgery. However, you will have the opportunity to observe with delight the constant improvement of the shape and the reabsorption of the edema. To enjoy your new look for years after the surgery, we recommend a balanced diet and regular physical exercise.

More details about the intervention and postoperative recommendation will be provided at the first consultation.
